Woke up to wonderful breakfast of fresh pastries and rolls and fruit. Amazing. Sweetest strawberries 🍓 I've ever had.
Headed out to the Petrified Forest. It's near Calistoga. Beautiful 1 mile hike thru the forest to see Mt. St. Helena which was the volcano that erupted a million years ago that the lava downed all the trees and left them buried in ash.

Shopping in St. Helena. Chocolate at Woodhouse Chocolate. I had the Meyer Lemon. Yum.

I'm home for a nap and Becky to read. Karen and Shari went to Travis AFB about an hour away to see a friend of Karen's from when they were stationed in Germany. They were having ice cream 🍦


Janet is preparing dinner for us. Zane Sr. sister and husband are traveling through and stopping for dinner. They are ~90 and retired educators. Can't wait to meet them.

Fabulous meal (chicken, sweet potatoes, apples and onion with honey sauce) and a fabulous visit. Morgan and Linda were amazing people. They brought us a book "50 Things to do when your 50"

Bed by 10. Packing up the van!!

Goodbye LA...San Fran here we come. Driving the 101 or even Pacific Coast Hwy 1 at times, we headed for San Jose to see my son Blake and his wife Cyndi before staying the night in Berkeley. The ocean was beautiful. We stopped near Morro Bay to walk out on the sand to the ocean.  We found thousands of beautiful sand dollars on the beach. The view was amazing. We drove just a little farther north and stopped near the water but saw cliffs instead of sand. It was a gorgeous drive from sand and ocean up past Santa Cruz to Big Basin State Park to see the giant Redwoods. I drove 9 miles up a steep, narrow and winding road to the park. We got there just before sunset to get pics by the giant trees. We made the funniest video trying to take pics. We left as it got dark and took Bear Creek Road which was very windey and steep towards San Jose.  We got to see Blake and Cyndi's new house and met Oscar and Lucy - theirs cats 🐱. Fresh coffee and Boudin sourdough toast with blackberry jam for breakfast. Our hosts Zane and Janet are amazing. Nice long hot shower and some laundry right now. Off to eat lunch at the Culinary Institute where Caity and Eric are working. Maybe walk around a winery and then a surprise for the evening. We drove to Calistoga and walked around.  It was a quaint little town with shops and wine tasting. Dick Vermeil has a winery and shop we visited.  We bought balsamic vinegar and St. Helena olive oil to bring home. We visited Caitys Culinary Institute for lunch and had her own cream of potato soup and salads. We got chocolate and lemon mousses and a three layer torte.  Everything was heavenly. At 3 pm we left for the ferry ⛴ in Vallejo. It took us to San Francisco where we went to AT &T Park to watch the Royals take on the Giants.  It was Madison Bumgarner tshirt night. Leaving Berkeley. Driving to Fishermans Wharf. Lots of traffic congestion to get over the Bay Bridge. Odometer check. 2330 miles so far. Pier 39 today. Maybe Alcatraz, 🚋 trolley car, and Golden Gate Bridge. Instead of the full Alcatraz trip, we took a guided one-hour cruise thru the bay around Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate.  We got great pics and even saw a whale. The weather was gorgeous with no fog. We walked along the wharf and ate sundaes for lunch at Gherdelis :) Headed to Napa about 2pm.  Crossed the Golden Gate and drove about 2hours. Dinner at Zane and Janet Todd's house in St. Helena. Beautiful vino, burgers, salad, sweet potato fries, pets (Cooper and Salvy) and family Caity and Eric. Bed by 10:30 pm.
